“Gratitude for the Community at Afros and Audio Podcast Festival.”
In my journey into the podcast industry, I have attended well-curated virtual events, conferences, and summits. At the same time, they were all great experiences and a terrific way to network.
In my journey into the podcast industry, I have attended well-curated virtual events, conferences, and summits. At the same time, they were all great experiences and a terrific way to network. Unfortunately-pandemic, I often took those meetings and exchanges of energy for granted. Nonetheless, the in-person events ensured a sensation of motivation for me, an intentional connection required for my involvement in the industry. During the Covid -19 pandemic, we had to adjust and learn how to curate significant relationships virtually, which is achievable in any medium; there is nothing like real-life interactive connections. This past weekend attending Afros and Audios solidified the fundamentals of what real-life networking truly represents.
As a creative and audio professional, it ignited a fire in me! Afros and Audio kicked off their 4th annual festival for Black audio professionals, created by Talib Jasir, who is a kind, creative, and thought leader. The two-day event was set at the beautiful Warwick Rittenhouse Square Hotel in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, from Saturday, October 22, 2022, to Sunday, October 23, 2022.
The festival was incredibly organized, with joyful attendees and a vibe like no other. The festival topics range from" How Can Technology Change Podcasting UX? " to "The Art of Strategic Relationships for Black Podcasters”; furthermore, the amount of support from industry veterans like Libsyn, She Podcast, AdsWizz, Simplecast, and Samson to mention a few was just phenomenal.
Additionally, I had the privilege to connect with some of my peers and great podcast leaders like Danielle Desir Corbett founder of WOC Podcasters, TK Dutes, and Conscious, both creators of TK in the Am and phenomenal producers, and Akilah Thompkins Robinson, SEO Strategist and podcaster. Other highlights included meeting my podcast virtual peers Latrice Sampson-Richards, a podcast producer making waves in the industry, and Corey Gumbs, Creator of the Black Podcasters Association. Not simply connecting with my peers was exciting; I also met new leaders in the space, which was incredible.
Every attendee was thrilled to be there; the number of smiles and energy was just electric; it reminded me of how much I missed my community and my gratitude for existing in this collective. I appreciate Afros, and the Audio 4th Annual Festival in-person event uplifted me to reflect on our community of Podcasters in NJ and how in-person connections nourish our growth as podcasters.

Afros & Audio Launches New Podcast Community Network Providing Year-Round Support and Resources to Podcast Creatives and Audio Professionals
NEW YORK, Feb. 24, 2021 -- Afros & Audio a U.S. based podcast focused company is excited to announce its new membership Community Network, for and by Black podcast creatives and audio professionals. "It's our contribution to this year's Black History Month; the only difference is amplifying Black voices and accomplishments won't end on the 28th because making history never ends," said Talib Jasir, Founder of Afros & Audio.
Afros & Audio Community Network
For the past two years, Afros & Audio has hosted a two-day podcast conference that provides a platform for Black podcast professionals to share Industry insight and experiences as creatives and experts. Despite Zoom fatigue and the challenges of converting an in-person to a virtual event, 2020's festival was a great success. The enthusiastic and passionate feedback received during and after the festival left the organizers with one regret – there wasn't an immediate space to continue our connections; "It's only in the days after our events where we can adequately measure the impact of our commitment to community and collaboration," said Talib.
Welcome to the Day After! Two years later, Afros & Audio makes good on the inaugural promise to be a year-round source of support and resources, by and for Black podcast creatives and audio professionals.
Proudly recognized as an inclusive community of all Black voices and lives, Afros & Audio's Podcast Community Network is the outcome of a strategic collaboration between a host of industry partners. The new online community space will prove to be an experience much like the festival – transformative rather than transactional.
The Afros & Audio Podcast Community Network will connect podcast creatives, audio professionals, brands, and businesses globally, encouraging proactive collaborations to support members with a groundbreaking and community-centered resource sharing platform.

Check out her excellent tips below:
Tip1# Start with simple inventory, like branded T-shirts, hoodies, and wrist bands. You are using your podcast tag line or favorite phrases. Also, make sure to be aware of your analytics and who your audience is.
Tip#2 Feel out what your audience base will buy, pay attention to their likes and dislikes regarding the merchandise.
Tip#3 Budget is everything. You do not want to sit on inventory; you can start with sample pieces. If you have a budget to work with, another suggestion she stated is “to start with 50 units to cut down pricing for samples through wholesale distributors.”
